Appellate geeks often track which justice authored which decision during a sitting. SCOTUSblog posts one form of that data here.
As a court’s term gets closer to its end, legal pundits speculate about who could be writing the undecided cases. We will hear and see more of this as the Supreme Court of the United States winds down its term at the end of June.
State supreme court decisions also matter.
July 31 will be the Michigan Supreme Court’s end for its 2023-24 term and most—if not all—argued matters will be decided by then.
With 74 days to go (as of this post), the Court is working through 52 undecided matters.
So far this term, the Court has issued six opinions. Four were authored, and two were “per curiam”. The Court has also resolved 22 argued docket numbers by order.
Given these to-date dispositions, it’s impossible to speculate who may be writing what’s left in Michigan’s undecided cases. But this Gannt table shows how 52 important decisions can be expected in the coming weeks.
